Sandeep Menon Foundation supports several initiatives in and around the city, extending much-needed support to the fields of health, education and sport. In its humble beginnings, the foundation has been able to partake in a few such activities that include – Providing medicines to cancer patients, donating medical apparatus to state health organisations, offering financial support to school and college students, and aiding amateur, community and professional sports persons from marginalised sections of the society.

Fighting COVID-19

Distribution of utility bags to the residents of RSAC Road, Vyttila.

The handmade bags contain 4 masks, a sanitiser bottle and a soap handwash. The foundation has provided 150 bags to as many households in the neighbourhood.

The campaign was organised to ensure continued awareness amongst children and adults, and equip them with basic utilities in fighting the pandemic.

We would like to thank our close family members and our patrons Haeal Life for supporting us in this cause.

Against the coronavirus

Distribution of pulse oximeters, sanitiser bottles and oxygen concentrators.

With the onset of the second pandemic wave, Sandeep Menon Foundation had the opportunity to distribute covid-19 essentials to the govt. health department and homes in the neighbourhood.

130 pulse oximeters were provided to the office bearers of residents associations in Vyttila, namely, Cosmos Road, RSAC Road North and Ponnurunni. They will be distributed to families in the region, with 1 device per household sufficient enough to keep a tab on blood oxygen levels.

3 oxygen concentrators were donated to the office of the Kerala Govt. Health Department in Manjummel. As need arises, they will be supplied to various hospitals in the city under directives from the district health officer.

This community program was fully supported by donations from Sandeep’s batch mates. They are former students of Model Engineering College, Sandeep’s alumnus, and a group of his closest friends who have stood by his side at all times.

They are the Foundation’s first and foremost benefactors and, we are more than grateful for their continued support since our inception in 2008.

We hope that this campaign facilitates the wellbeing and recovery of critical and non-critical patients during this period.

Cancer Awareness Programme and Early Detection Camp

On 27th March 2022, the foundation conducted its first public awareness programme after a long gap of two years.

The camp was organised at the Teachers’ Training Centre in Arthungal and witnessed a participation of 150 people.

We would like to extend gratitude to Abhayam Charitable Trust Tripunithura and WIN (Women’s Initiative Network Society) for the arrangements and large attendance.

Our special thanks to Dr. Babu Mathew, Dr. Lisamma Joseph and Dr. Thomas K. S. for delivering highly informative sessions and assisting us with PAP smear collection.

• 14 PAP smears collected

The Illuminati Quiz

The XIV Edition

The Illuminati Quiz (TIQ) is an annual inter-collegiate quiz competition organised by ‘The Illuminati’, the hugely popular quizzing community of Govt. Model Engineering College. The event is conducted in memory of Sandeep, (known to club members as the ‘Illuminatus’) who founded the club in 2004 during his third year in college.

TIQ is one of the largest student-led quizzes in South India and is open to all age categories. The first ever TIQ was held on 8 December 2008 and it continues to this day with the help of students and teachers from MEC and our beloved quizmaster, Major Chandrakant Nair.

As Sandeep always said, ‘the spirit of quizzing should drive the Illuminati forward to never miss an event’ and it has since become the unofficial motto of the club, which manifests itself as the weekly TGIF (Thank God It’s Friday) after-class quizzes. The club also conducts internal quizzes and trains newcomers at college.

Student Scholarship

Offering financial support to the families of school and college students to meet tuition costs.

Sandeep Menon Foundation distributed its annual student scholarship at Model Engineering College, Kochi as part of the XSA (X-MEC Social Assist) meet on 3rd December 2022.

The scholarship programme has been in place since 2018 and covers annual tuition fee for selected students.

The programme is fully funded by Sandeep’s friends from his batch of 2006. We extend a big thank you to them for the continued support.

The Illuminati Quiz 2023

The XV Edition

As the founder and self-proclaimed ‘illuminatus’ of @mec_illuminati, the college quiz club, Sandeep paved a path for many young and aspiring quizzers.

The Illuminati Quiz, conducted in his memory, has just completed its 15th edition in 2023. We would like to thank the organisers, sponsors and of course, our beloved quizmaster, Major Chandrakant Nair (@_reduvid), who has been with us for 12 years.

Today, Sandeep would’ve been turning 39 and we fondly remember his signature buzzer beaters, ludicrous guesses and tolerant team mates from across the years.

Towards a better future

Monetary support for surgical procedure – Brachial Plexus Free Functional Muscle Transfer and Hand Tendon Transfer Major.

Rahul has a congenital ailment that rendered both his arms malformed, with severely inhibited movement and use. The foundation was informed of the surgery scheduled to take place at a hospital in the city.

Rahul is a licensed football coach and also a player in the city’s amateur leagues and competitions. The success of the surgery would bring full range of motion to his arms, thereby enabling regular, day-to-day functionality and a second chance at pursuing his dreams in the sport.

A safe spot for sport

Provision of enclosure nets to a local football community in Vyttila, Kochi.

The kids have a small area where they play regularly. They wanted a solution to prevent the ball from going onto the roads.

The foundation was informed of the situation and responded by handing over football nets that would conveniently surround their playing area.

We hope this ensures their safety and, in the meantime, encourages them to get more involved in the beautiful game.
